High in the Andes above Medellín, smallholder farmers work slopes of volcanic loam the way the old clans worked the fjord-sides; patiently, and in defiance of the weather. When the rains come, this coffee is dried in solar dryers: sun-halls built so that no storm may undo a season's labor.
The cup is a medium roast worthy of the high passes: dried orange and berry up front, chocolate underneath. A steadfast daily companion, equally at home in the longhouse or the office.
